Receipts (2024) is a collection of photographs by Taschi Belt from the years 2017-2024. She’s captured moments from throughout her adolescence—people and places that seemed permanent, even if only momentarily—and printed those images on receipt paper to scan them. Receipt printers use heat and friction, rather than ink, to make pixellated renderings of the original material. Like the moments illustrated in this book, they aren’t built to last. Receipts don’t archive well, and the shades they contain transform in retrospect like memories do. But in Taschi’s book, they’re scanned, and these stills from the good and bad times freeze in black and white and shades of grey.
